Notifications and requests on all overseas travels including study abroad, overseas conferences, research exchanges, and personal reasons during FY2020

On March 28, the Japanese Prime Minister requested people to refrain from nonessential and non-urgent overseas travels to prevent an explosive spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) which had been declared a pandemic.
In response, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a Level 3 alert (Avoid all travel) over 73 countries and a Level 2 alert (Avoid nonessential travel) to all other countries and areas on March 31. Unfortunately, it is not likely that things return to normal any time soon.
Considering the situation, Chiba University requests all students to understand and observe the following.

1. Study abroad programs
[Term 1-3]
Chiba University cancels all study abroad programs (including study abroad individually planned by students) in Term1 - Term 3 regardless of countries and areas.
No guidance or recruitment will take place for programs in and after Term 4 until we see positive outlooks on the situation.

[Term 4 and after]
No study abroad programs will take place until Chiba University decides it is safe to send students overseas.

2. Overseas travel for research exchanges or conferences
[Term 1-3]
We request not to travel overseas even for research or conferences.
[Term 4 and after]
We request not to travel overseas for those purposes until Chiba University decides it is safe to do so.

3. Overseas travels for personal reasons
[Term 1-3]
We request not to travel overseas for personal reasons.
[Term 4 and after]
We request not to travel overseas for personal reasons until Chiba University decides it is safe to do so.
